Your siding has been green since May. Maybe longer. The algae and mildew have built up along the shaded north face, the gable trim is streaked with black, and no amount of hose-spraying is going to touch it. That is not a cosmetic problem waiting to happen — it's happening now. Organic growth eats into siding over years and does real damage to the surfaces underneath.

Why Soft Washing and Not Pressure Washing
High-pressure washing gets the surface looking clean. The problem is what it does to get there: cracked vinyl seams, forced water behind siding, stripped paint, and lifted shingles on roofs. Homes in the Pocono lake corridor are especially vulnerable because the humid, shaded conditions that grow algae so fast here also mean the siding and trim have been weathering for years.
Soft washing uses a low-pressure, chemical-treatment process. The cleaning solution — a sodium hypochlorite-based mix at the right dilution — kills the algae, mold, mildew, and lichen at the root. The pressure is comparable to a garden hose. The growth rinses away because it's dead, not because it was blasted off. That is why soft-washed surfaces stay clean longer: the root cause is gone.
Connor explains this before every estimate. You will leave that conversation knowing more about your siding than you did before he arrived.
What Gets Washed
Vinyl siding is the most common exterior in Pocono lake communities — and one of the most prone to algae and black streak buildup in shaded conditions. Soft washing removes the film without cracking the seams or voiding manufacturer warranties that often specify low-pressure cleaning.
Stucco is on a large portion of the vacation homes and A-frames in this corridor. Stucco is porous — it absorbs organic growth more deeply than vinyl, and high pressure damages the surface texture permanently. A correctly diluted soft wash cleans stucco thoroughly without eroding the finish. See the full stucco breakdown in the stucco cleaning section of the FAQ.
Brick and stone hold on to moss and lichen that roots into the mortar over years. Soft washing kills the growth and lets it rinse away without the joint erosion that pressure washing causes in older brick.
Cedar shake and board-and-batten require the most care. Cedar is an open-grained wood — high pressure raises the grain, forces water into the wood, and accelerates rot. Soft washing at the right dilution cleans cedar safely and preserves the finish.
Fascia, soffits, and trim get included as part of a full house wash. There is no sense cleaning the wall face and leaving the trim above it streaked.
What to Expect
Connor arrives on the scheduled day, walks the property with you, and talks through what he's seeing — not just the obvious areas but things like gutter attachment points and anything that could affect how the water runs. He points out what he notices, even if it's outside the scope of the job.
The wash typically takes two to four hours for a standard-size home, depending on the amount of organic growth and surface area. After the wash, you will see the biological growth begin to dissipate — in some cases immediately, in others over the next few days as the treatment continues working. That is normal. The growth was neutralized during the wash; it breaks down as it dries.
Connor does not sub out work. He is the one on-site.
