That is the case for deck cleaning. Your deck and patio get more direct exposure to organic growth than almost any other surface on your property — shade from the house, moisture from the lake air, and foot traffic that grinds algae and mildew into the surface. Wood decks turn gray-green. Composite decking gets slippery and stained. Concrete pool decks collect orange algae bloom and black mold in the joints.
None of that requires replacement. It requires cleaning done correctly.

Wood and Composite Decks
Wood decking — pressure-treated pine, cedar, or redwood — develops a gray cast over time from UV exposure and a green or black tinge from algae and mildew. The biological growth is not cosmetic; it accelerates wood degradation and creates a surface that is slippery when wet and rough to walk on barefoot.
Soft washing cleans wood decks at low pressure with a solution calibrated for organic growth removal on wood. High-pressure washing raises the grain on wood decks, leaves visible streaks from pressure variations, and can damage the fasteners and structural surface of older boards. Soft washing avoids all of that.
Composite decking (Trex, TimberTech, and similar products) is specifically not recommended for high-pressure cleaning by most manufacturers. Their maintenance guides call for low-pressure washing with a cleaning solution — which is exactly what soft washing is.
After cleaning, wood decks are a natural starting point for staining or sealing if that's next on your list. Connor does not do the staining, but he can tell you whether the surface is ready for it.
Concrete and Paver Patios
Concrete patios and pool decks accumulate algae, mold, and organic staining that standard cleaning does not remove. The porous surface of concrete holds biological growth below the surface layer — pressure washing alone pushes water into those pores and sends dirt deeper before it comes back out. Soft washing's chemical treatment kills the growth at the cellular level.
Paver patios with polymeric sand joints need attention: high pressure blows out the joint material. Connor uses a pressure appropriate for the surface type — firm enough to clear the staining on the paver face, controlled enough not to displace the sand fill.
Pool Decks
Pool decks go through cycles of wet-dry-wet daily throughout the season. That moisture cycling feeds algae bloom along the perimeter, especially in the shaded sections. The growth makes pool decks dangerous — wet algae on a pool deck edge is a slip hazard.
Soft washing cleans pool deck surfaces without introducing excessive pressure near pool water or pool coping. Connor rinses the surrounding area before and after to manage runoff.
